Performance Appraisals can be an incredibly effective management intervention – if done properly!
Too often though they are badly planned and poorly executed with the result that little of value is achieved. This has perhaps led to appraisals acquiring something of a ‘bad name’. Yes, they do require care and effort to get right but, when they are done right, they have numerous benefits for the individual, the manager and the business.
In Part 1 we looked at the benefits of adopting a Performance Appraisal system (for both you and your staff). In this instalment we look at the key aspects of planning and preparation.
